1 Corinthians 10:13 - The power of the Word

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

This verse is very important to me. Not only is is a powerful message, but it is one of the verses I memorized in the study which began my regular (almost daily) bible study and blog. I find it interesting that although I had learned this (and other) verses independently, coming across one of these verses in my study of a book really solidifies it's location in the bible for me.

Lord, thank you for your Word. Please help us to memorize and retain passages of scripture. Amen.

Psalm 24:9 - Open up

Lift up your heads, you gates;
     lift them up, you ancient doors,
     that the King of glory may come in.

I really like the imagery in this verse. This verse reminds us that God is sovereign over everything, even the doors. He has limitless dominion. It also reminds us we must all open the door of our hearts and allow God to come in.

Lord, thank you for the beautiful images in your scripture. Please help us to remember you reign supreme and we must allow you into our hearts. Amen.

Psalm 18:33 - Hinds Feet

He makes my feet like the feet of a deer;
     he causes me to stand on the heights. (NIV)

He maketh my feet like hinds' feet,
     and setteth me upon my high places. (KJV)

This verse was a pivotal one in my development as a Christian. At the end of a mission trip to Nairobi, Kenya in a summer off from college, one of the local missionaries gave me the book "Hinds Feet on High Places." To be honest, I don't remember too much about the book or why it effected me so much, I just bought it for my Kindle, so maybe I'll do a book review in the future.

Lord, thank you for wonderful memories associated with scripture. Please help us to continue to build strong ties to you word. Amen.
