Psalm 141:3 - A prayer for obedient eating

Set a guard over my mouth, Lord;
     keep watch over the door of my lips.

I recently heard the phrase "obedient eating." This is much better than the word "diet." As a person with a stronghold of overeating, I am always looking for scriptures to help me in my struggle, The verse after this requests, "Do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil," and "do not let me eat their (evildoers) delicacies."

Lord, thank you for giving us scriptures which apply to our situation. Please set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips. Amen.

Psalm 28:3 - Behind their back

Do not drag me away with the wicked,
     with those who do evil,
who speak cordially with their neighbors
     but harbor malice in their hearts.

I am too easily swayed by the opinions of people around me. When someone is talking negatively about a person, I may join in the negative talk. If I do, when I see that person it is so hard for me to look them in the eye and treat them with respect. In one sense it is good, it is hard for me to "speak cordially but harbor malice." But, I don't have to worry about this if I don't talk bad about people in the first place.

Lord, thank you for the wisdom of your word. Lord help me to only speak and think kind thoughts about people. Amen.

Psalm 12:6 - Words

And the words of the Lord are flawless,
     like silver purified in a crucible,
     like gold refined seven times.

Psalm 12 focuses on our words. Our tongues are powerful and can be used for good or evil. Our word reflect what is in our hearts. As our perfect example, God's words are flawless. They never lie or falsely flatter.

Lord, thank you for the reliability of your word. Please help us to follow your example and use our words for good. Amen.

Colossians 4:6

Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

I have thought a lot over the last year or so about our reactions and how important our reactions to situations are. the way we automatically react show so much about who we are on the inside. If our conversation is always full of grace, seasoned with salt, then even in difficult situations it will be the same. If we allow ourselves to fly off the handle, then we certainly will in difficult situations.

Lord, only with your help can we always keep our conversation full of grace season with salt. Lord, help us to know how to answer everyone in every situation. Amen.
