Psalm 119:81 - Longing, looking and waiting

My soul faints with longing for your salvation,
     but I have put my hope in your word.

This section of chapter 119 uses words like longing, looking and waiting. Are you longing, looking and waiting for the Lord? Or is there something else in your life you are longing, looking or waiting for? It is easy for things and people to take the place of God in our life. Only God satisfies, gives real hope and never fails on his promises.

Lord, thank you for being our unfailing God. Please help us to only long, look and wait for you. Amen.

Psalm 119:58 - Study and meditation

I have sought your face with all my heart;
        be gracious to me according to your promise.

This part of Psalm 119 is about study of and meditation on the word. The word is our portion or sustenance, Through seeking his face, considering our ways and giving thanks, we turn toward his statues, obey and remember his law regardless of our circumstances, We also connect with others and enjoy the love the Lord offers.

Lord, thank you for the benefits of seeking you. Please help us to always seek your face with all our hearts. Amen.

Psalm 111:10 - Wisdom and understanding

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
     all who follow his precepts have good understanding.
     To him belongs eternal praise.

So many people are seeking. They want wisdom and understanding but search for it in all the wrong places. Fear of the Lord and obedience to Him are the keys. Non-Christians may feel like Christians act like they know it all and have it all figured out. Well, we are on the path to wisdom and understanding because of our relationship to God, so we may actually have some things figured out. I don't think God wants us to act superior or have a closed mind, but we do have clarity not attained by many. When we share our wisdom and understanding, it is not to belittle, but to offer it to you.

Lord, Thank you for wisdom and understanding. Please help us to fear you, follow your precepts, and share this with others. Amen.

Psalm 74:13-14 - Sea monsters?

It was you who split open the sea by your power;
     you broke the heads of the monster in the waters.
It was you who crushed the heads of Leviathan
     and gave it as food to the creatures of the desert.

These are verses on my list to ask God about in heaven. Sea monsters, really? Maybe, maybe not Psalm 74 is primarily about Israel feeling rejected by God, but then they remember how God saved them by rescuing them from the Egyptians. How he opened the Red Sea so they could go across, then destroyed the Egyptian army by allowing the water to close back in and drown them. The Egyptians are the monster, the leviathan in figurative language. And perhaps the dead bodies of the Egyptians washed up on the shore (Exodus 14:30) where they were eaten by animals...not sure about that one.

Lord, thank you for the mysteries of your word. Please keep us always seeking after you. Amen.

Psalm 53:2 - Look for the seekers

God looks down from heaven
     on all mankind
to see if there are any who understand,
     any who seek God.

Do you ever get fed up with the sins of the world? Do you wonder if there are any good people out there? Apparently David felt this way frequently. We need to look for those who understand and seek God.

Lord, thank you for looking for those of us who seek you. Please help us to understand and remain faithful. Amen.

Psalm 42:1 - Desire for God

As the deer pants for streams of water,
     so my soul pants for you, my God.

There is something inside each of us that desires God. We may try to fulfill this desire with lots of other things, but nothing will satisfy like the one true living God.

Lord. thank you for giving us a desire for you! Please help those seeking to find you. Amen.

Psalm 14:2 - I seek you, God

The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.

There are so many corrupt people in the world who have turned away from God, but when I read the verse above, I wanted to jump up and down and shout up to God, "I seek you!!"  As hopeless as it sometimes seems, there are righteous people seeking God. God knows his people and he protects them.

Lord, thank you for knowing us and protecting us. Please help us to always seek you, Amen.

Romans 6:4 - Wanna live a new life?

We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

It is almost the new year! What better way to usher in 2016 than by committing to God, being baptized and starting a new life?

Lord, thank you for the opportunity to have a new life with you. Please allow me to be of assistance to anyone who is considering giving their life to you and be with those making the decision. Amen.
