“Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.”
Abraham had been asked by God to sacrifice his son as a burnt offering. This is the son God gave to him after so much waiting. He was the gift, the promise of generations to come. Why had God given Abraham this precious gift if he was going to take it away? Verse 1 in chapter 22 says God was testing him. So, what has been given to you that you have been asked to lay on the alter?
Lord, help us to clearly hear your voice and know if you are asking us to give something up, then Lord, help us to trust you and do what you ask. Amen.
