Psalm 56:3 - When I am _____, I put my trust in you.

Psalm 42:5 - Are you downcast?

Why, my soul, are you downcast?
     Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
     for I will yet praise him,
     my Savior and my God.

It is so easy to let the troubles of the world get us down. There are a lot of things to be disturbed about, personally and on a global scale. But these things do not have to keep us down. God is our hope. He is the solution for all troubles, the salve for all wounds.

Lord, thank you for giving us hope. Please help us to rely on you in times of trouble. Amen,

1 Peter 5:10 - Restored

And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

After dealing with "the blues" for a few days, I finally remembered to go to the Lord with my problem and of course, he comforted me. Occasionally I give devotional talks at work. I usually have no notice of these, so I talk about whatever I studied that morning. Yesterday we centered our devotional on depression and suggestions for dealing with "the blues". It was so helpful and the verse above was a result of that study. Everyone gets down occasionally, even great Biblical heroes did. But whatever season of difficulty we are in, God promises to bring us through those times and restore us.

Lord, thank you for walking with us in our low times and bringing us through them. Please help us to remember to always turn to you in our times of trial. Amen.

Psalm 143:7-8 - Depressed

Answer me quickly, Lord; my spirit fails. Do not hide your face from me or I will be like those who go down to the pit. Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.

I am feeling depressed this morning. Maybe it's the rain. Maybe it's my job. Not sure why. I went to BibleGateway and typed depression in the search box and the verse above was found.

Lord, thank you for your word and the amazing comfort I receive from it. Please help my spirit not to fail. Amen.
